FAQ

  • Do Ashlocks® Require Special Care? Are They Waterproof and Can I Wear Them Every Day?

Ashlocks® Cremation and Memorial Jewellery designs have the highest level of water resistance possible. They close tightly and are further secured by a neoprene 'o' ring on every closure. We do recommend however that they are removed prior to showering, swimming or vigorous exercise to protect the precious metals. Generally you should care for your Ashlocks® Memorial Jewellery the way you would any piece of fine jewellery.

Your jewellery will be sent with full care instructions and a micro-fibre polishing cloth to ensure you feel confident in the care of your jewellery. In the meantime you can view some basic care instructions here.

  • Do You Have a Store Where I Can Buy Ashlocks® Jewellery?

The Ashlocks® Collection is available online via the Keepsake Jewellery Australia website and orders are dispatched quickly all over Australia. Also, we understand that it can be difficult to buy jewellery without seeing it in person so we offer a FULL REFUND OR EXCHANGE on all jewellery, even if you simply change your mind. You can read about our generous Refund and Exchange Policy here.

Ashlocks are also available at select funeral homes, pet care specialists and cemeteries around Australia. If you are organising a loved one's funeral and would like an item from the Ashlocks collection please have your funeral director contact us.

  • How Long Will My Ashlocks® Take To Arrive?

Orders are sent within 1-2 business days by Parcel Post or Express Post with insurance, signature on delivery and tracking. Delivery time estimates can be seen at the checkout.

International orders are sent via Registered International Mail and will usually arrive within 2-6 weeks depending on your location and any delays by carriers.

  • The Design I Want is Out of Stock - When Will It Be Available Again?

We process a very high number of orders which means that sometimes some of our designs are unavailable. If you see an item that is out of stock please know that we are busy making more and will have it back in stock as quickly as possible. If you'd like an estimated restock date please feel free to contact us

  • Do You Offer Engraving?

We don't offer engraving in-house, however all of our jewellery can be engraved and you should be able to have this done by a local engraver.

  • What is Cremation Jewellery and Memorial Jewellery?

Cremation Jewellery and Memorial Jewellery is a collective group of pendants, necklaces and charms which have been specifically designed with a concealed inner compartment to hold precious cremation ashes or other keepsake memorials.

These very special, purpose-made pieces of jewellery offer a very beautiful and personal way to memorialize a loved one.

  • How Much Ashes Do They Hold?

Capacity varies from piece to piece but generally they will hold from 1/8 to 1 teaspoon of cremation ashes depending on the design. Please see individual product descriptions for more information on each product's internal capacity.

  • How Is The Jewellery Filled? Do We Do This Or Do You?

Every item is supplied with detailed filling instructions together with a complete filling kit containing a small spoon, a micro funnel, ashes clearing tool and a mini screwdriver (for screw port designs).  If you are not comfortable filling the jewellery yourself we suggest contacting your local Funeral Director who will  usually be very happy to assist. As an overview of the process you can see some basic filling instructions here (more detailed instructions are sent with every order).

Unfortunately we don't provide a filling service as no postal service can be guaranteed so it isn't recommended to send precious ashes through the mail.

  • How Does This Work If My Funeral Director is Organising The Cremation?

We can send your order directly to you or to your Funeral Director (if they agree). If you wish to have the jewellery sent to your Funeral Director please list their address in the "Shipping Address" section of the checkout. Every order is sent with everything needed for filling, whether it is sent directly to you or your Funeral Director.

  • What is Gold Vermeil?

In short, Gold Vermeil is a heavy durable overlay of Gold over solid Sterling Silver but it is not the same as Gold Plate. For jewellery to be classified as genuine Gold Vermeil there is a minimum International Standard. The Standard has three (3) requirements that must all be satisfied:

1. The jewellery item must be made of solid 925 Sterling Silver;
2. The Gold overlay must be a minimum of 2.5 micron thick; AND
3. The Gold must be of a purity of not less than 10 Carat.

KJA Gold Vermeil exceeds this standard with 3 microns of 14 Carat Gold over solid Sterling Silver - an unmatched level of quality and durability. (Regular gold plating is only 0.02 to 0.5 microns).

With proper care KJA Gold Vermeil jewellery will last a very long time, however if you want to wear your jewellery daily, over an extended period of time, we recommend solid Sterling Silver or solid 9ct Gold pieces. These will last a lifetime and can be passed down as family heirlooms from generation to generation.

  • Will the Sterling Silver Designs Tarnish?

All genuine 925 Sterling Silver may tarnish to varying extents over time. This is the nature of Sterling Silver and, rather than being a fault, it is an indication that it is actually genuine Sterling Silver. To help minimise tarnish and to provide extra scratch protection all Ashlocks Silver designs are overlaid with Rhodium - a very precious and durable metal. Tarnish can occur from oxidisation as a result of exposure to certain elements in the air, on the skin or around the jewellery when being stored. Tarnish is quite easily removed and you will find this information contained in the instructions included with your jewellery order.

  •  What If I Lose My Cremation Jewelry?

To give you some peace of mind we send a free mini cremation urn with every Ashlocks® Jewellery piece. This way you can easily keep a small amount of ashes in a safe place (especially if you are scattering or interring the cremation ashes) just in case your jewellery is ever lost.

If you have any questions about our Cremation or Memorial Jewellery which you don't see answered here please feel free to contact us.

Thank you,
